September 5
James 1:19-27
  • Listening and Doing: Our responsibility as true followers of Christ involves listening to what he is teaching and then doing what he tells us. It's pretty straightforward -take care of those who can't take care of themselves. But wait, there's a catch!

  • September 12
    James 2:1-13 (special guest)
  • A Warning against Prejudice
Andrew Jenkins, Executive Director of The Village, discusses the issues surrounding favoritism, but what is favoritism and how are we affected by this? Real world examples of how each of us shows favoritism in our lives.

  • September 19
    James 2:14-26
"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?...You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone." Hey, hold on here Buster, I thought we are saved by grace alone and not by works so that we can't brag about it? Does Scripture contradict itself?

    September 26
James 3:1-18 (last service in current space)
  • Teachers of the Word have a great responsibility to speak well and truthfully, but are we only speaking of speaking? What kind of damage can you do with a small piece of flesh? "The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peaceloving, considerate, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere."

    October 3
James 4:1-17 (first service in new space)
Submit yourselves to God and make the devil run far, far away. Hold your tongue and then wash your hands - cleanliness is next to Godliness according to my Grandmother. Then call on perhaps the worst business travel planner ever. As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."

    October 10
    James 5:1-20
  • So you say you want to be rich? Think again, because like teachers, rich people have great responsibilities. We are rich in God and that requires us to gain and hold onto patience. The only way to do this is through passionate prayer, including an acknowledgement of who we are. I don't know about you, but I am not sure if I even know yet. I didn't even know what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was over 40!
